PARIS - THE CITY OF LIGHT
Paris, the capital of France. With landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Opéra Garnier, Louvre, Notre-Dame, Sacré Coeur, and not forgetting the Seine, an introduction is hardly necessary. It is a city of culture - music, history and art, of education, high fashion, business, gastronomy - not forgetting the cafes and brasseries, and love!
With all this, it is hardly surprising that property prices are high, and that it is a popular city for investment.
Paris is divided into sectors, known as arrondissements. (arr.) See map. Prices are dictated to a large extent by the arrondissements in which properties are located. (Much the same as W1. or SW1 districts in London). For example - the 8th on the right bank of the Seine for the rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the Champs-Élysées, the 18th for Montmartre, and the Latin Quarter in the 5th and 6th on the left bank, and so on.
In the 7th arr. You will find many buildings of the 30s – particularly elegant Haussmannien architecture. Large mansion blocks, also known as Hotel Particuliers, with sizeable family apartments – all commanding higher prices in what is generally a quiet, clean, bourgeois area.
The 20th arr. in the east, and others adjoining, offer numerous small and medium priced apartments, where returns are the highest in the capital. It’s considered by many to be the ‘real’ Paris with the Bastille quarter, many lively theatres and old cafés. Edith Piaf described some of this area in her songs, and time there seems to have stood still.
